1. Nov 15, Dec 5 and Jan 13 | How to Start a Community Garden

At the free workshop you will learn about the steps involved in starting a community garden. How to search for land, what is essential when starting a community garden, the supports that are available, tips for organizing the garden, and much more!

This workshop facilitator is Jordan Bouchard of the Community Garden Network.

Registration is required as space is limited.

2. Nov 18 | Seed Cleaning Workshop with Ottawa Seed Library *New time, now 11:30 – 1:30

So you’ve saved your own seeds, now what? At this workshop, attendees will get an overview of cleaning dried seeds with screens, fans, and even a special home-made open source seed cleaner. This workshop will cover threshing, winnowing, screening, labeling, and storing your seeds. Whether your small or large gardener this workshop will give you the techniques you need to get your seed clean for next spring.

Attendees will be able to bring their plant material, or the material they wish to donate to the Ottawa Seed Library. During the workshop attendees will also learn about the Ottawa Seed Library, and how they can contribute and participate in 2019 season.

3. Nov 13 | How Local Businesses Communicate Sustainability: A Panel Discussion

Presented by: The University of Ottawa Master’s of Environmental Sustainability Students

Check out this event at the Impact Hub Ottawa for a morning of engaging conversation and networking opportunities with some of Ottawa’s green businesses. Guest speakers will share their stories and experiences on how they have successfully communicated sustainability to the public and the challenges they have encountered along the way, local sustainable businesses, and provide an opportunity to connect with environmental professionals.

4. Nov 15 | NCEEN: Sustainable Fundraising with Ken Wyman 

In Celebration of their 10th Anniversary, the National Capital Environmental Non-profit Network (NCENN) has invited Ken Wyman to return to Ottawa to share his key fundraising teachings with local non-profits.

6. Nov 22 | The Cost of Eating Well in Ottawa: 2018 Nutritious Food Basket Webinar 

Do you know how much it costs to feed a family a nutritious diet in the City of Ottawa? Join the Ottawa Public Health’s Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Team on November 22nd from 12-1 pm for an important webinar where food insecurity in Ottawa and findings from the 2018 Nutritious Food Basket (NFB) survey are discussed. The NFB survey is a provincial tool used to calculate the cost of a nutritious diet in the City of Ottawa.

7. Dec 3 | Ecological Farmers of Ontario Conference, “Regeneration: Seeds, Soil, and Community Connection” 

Join EFAO and Eastern Canadian Organic Seed Growers Network  in London, Ontario on December 3, 2018 for Regeneration: Seeds, Soil and Community Connection. The conference will bring together ecological farmers (and supporters) from across the province to share ideas, learn from experts and from each other, and of course, celebrate with good food and friends. The vision for this conference aligns with the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario’s (EFAO) mandate “to support and promote a vibrant community of ecological farmers through education, training, farmer-led research and knowledge sharing.”
