Compost delivery next week
Compost will be delivered to the gardens the week of May 25-29 to all plots unless gardeners have indicated they wish to opt out.
If you do not want compost, please put a sign at the front of your plot this weekend indicating no compost – even if you have already made this request to the registrar. Mistakes happen.
Please note that compost will be delivered and dumped at the front of your plot. Do not plant anything at the front of your plot yet – it will be dumped on and get covered!
The logistics of arranging 10 trucks and three backhoes to dump and distribute to almost 400 plots is complex – especially in light of social distancing requirements this year.
Please give them time and space to complete their job in an orderly fashion
Straw available for pickup
GAGA normally arranges for straw to be delivered to both garden locations early in the planting season but we have decided against that this year because of COVID concerns surrounding social distancing and cash transactions.
Nevertheless we are aware many gardeners want straw and we are happy to pass along the information that our normal supplier is open for business and gardeners are welcome to pick up straw directly from the farm if they wish.
Our straw farm suppliers – Pete and Rosemary – can be reached at 613-226-5175 and are located in South Nepean near Hunt Club and Prince of Wales. Please call ahead to make sure someone is home.
COVID reminder
Keep those taps disinfected!
Among the special requirements for the gardens this year is the promise all gardeners have made to keep the faucets disinfected. This means gardeners should bring spray bottles or spray cans of disinfectant with them to disinfect the faucets. Please do your part.
